100 beehives with bee colonies distributed to SHG members at Angul Hariharpur village

 ANGUL:Under Gramodyog Vikash Yojana, KVIC, State Office, Odisha in convergence with Odisha Forest Sector Development Project (OFSDP Phase II) distributed 100 beehives with bee colonies, iron stand and toolkits to 10 members of one SHG at village Hariharpur near Athmalik in Angul District.

Each member of the SHG has been provided 10 beehives with bee colonies; 10 iron stands; one set of a toolkit which includes one bee veil, one smoker, 10 queen gates, one hive tool. The SHG has also been provided two food-grade stainless steel honey extractors. Earlier, during June 8-12, five days long beekeeping training was provided to the beneficiaries.

 

 

 During the distribution program, Shri S. Anand IFS , DFO, Athmalik; Shri Samir Kumar Mohanty, State Director, KVIC; Shri B N Panda, Assistant Director, KVIC; Shri Prashant Kumar Sahu, Assistant, KVIC; Shri Girija Shankar Dash, Subject Matter Specialist, OFSDP; Shri Kailash Chandra Sahoo, Range Officer, Athamallik; Shri Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Director, Viswa Juba Kendra, Angul; and  Prasanna Kumar Behera, Secretary, Nature Environment and Wildlife Society were present.

 Samir Mohanty, State Director, KVIC advised the representatives of NGOs present in the function to assist the villagers living in the nearby forest to take benefit of the PMEGP Scheme for expanding beekeeping activities in the area under SHG mode so that the villagers dwelling in the forest areas can earn a sustainable livelihood by leveraging the vast forest natural resources.

 S Anand IFS ,  DFO, Athmallik told beneficiaries that OFSDP Phase II would provide the  required advisory and handholding support required for the management and upkeeping of the bee colonies.
