1,129 test positive for Covid in Kerala

 KOCHI (Aug 01)HS: The first day of the month of August did not augur well for Kerala as 1,129new persons tested positive for Covid-19 and eight persons succumbed to the pandemic during the last 24 hours that ended on Saturday evening.

 

The number of new patients, the mode of getting contracted with the disease and the intensity of transmission all prove that coronavirus pandemic has become serious in the State.

 

 

 The capital city of Thiruvananthapuram, with its beautiful landscape which include seashore, backwaters and rivers has the highest number of Covid-19 patients. The district tested 259 new patients on Saturday, out of which 241 got infected through local transmission, said a press release issued by the department of health.

 

The situation was no different in the northernmost district of Kasaragod that tested 153 patients with Covid-19. The number of patients getting contracted with the pandemic through local transmission in the district showed 151.

 

While 89 expatriates and 114 persons from other States who returned to Kerala tested positive there were 58 patients who could not furnish the details of the source from where they contracted the pandemic. The State also saw 24 health workers and 11 Kerala State Electricity Board employees too got infected with Coronavirus.

 

There are 10,862 persons undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the State. A total of 1,257 patients were hospitalized on Saturday, all because of Covid-19.

 

Kerala’s testing for Covid-19 continued to be small as the State could test only 20,518 samples in the last 24 hours. While the State Government officials put up a brave face claiming everything was under control, a sense of helplessness and uncertainty prevailed in Kerala.

 Guwahati, Aug 12:Assam witnessed 2,669 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The recovery ratio in the state is 70%, whereas active ratio is 30%. Maximum cases in the state are being reported from Kamrup (N) followed by Nagaon and Dibrugarh.
