25 people injured in a road accident in Kolkata

Kolkata, 23 December (HS) : At least 25 people were injured, some of them seriously, when an overloaded mini truck suddenly overturned on the A J C Bose Road flyover in Central Kolkata this evening.

According to the police, the accident occurred when the Park Circus bound truck, carrying local traders from a Howrah market, was traveling at high speed when it suddenly overturned on the middle of the two km long flyover as the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

Since the vehicle was at high speed all passengers suffered multiple injuries and flung on the road. Soon  the passengers of other vehicles and the police who rushed to spot joined hands in rescuing the injured, many of whom lay in a pool of blood.

Soon all the injured were rushed to the SSKM government hospital where the condition of at least ten passengers  was stated to be 'very critical'.

Though the exact cause of the mishap was not yet known, following preliminary investigations it was revealed that the driver might have tried to overtake another vehicle at high speed and failed to control his truck leading to the accident, the police said.

As a result a huge traffic jam occurred on the flyover during the rush office hours and it took more than an hour for the police to normalise the movement of the traffic. The  damaged truck was also moved away from the spot, the police said adding none was arrested so far.
