Air quality in Delhi continues to remain in ‘ very poor category’

 (NEW DELHI) - The air quality in Delhi continues to remain in a very poor category today. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi's air quality index was recorded at 397 at 10 AM. An Air Quality Index between 201 and 300 is considered poor, 301 to 400 very poor and 401 to 500 severe.  According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, SAFAR, the AQI is likely to marginally improve and stay in the Very Poor for tomorrow. The stubble burning share in PM2.5 is estimated to be 36 per cent for today.

 

 

 Meanwhile, President Ram Nath Kovind has promulgated an ordinance to constitute a Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas.

 

The commission will work towards better coordination, research, identification and resolution of problems surrounding the Air Quality Index in the NCR and adjoining areas. It will consist of a Chairperson, a representative from the Ministry of Environment, members from the state of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, technical experts from the Central Pollution Control Board and Indian Space Research Organization among others. The Commission will have the power to take all such measures, issue directions and entertain complaints to protect and improve the air quality in the National Capital Region and adjoining areas. It will also lay down the parameters for discharge of environmental pollutants from various sources.
