Chief Secretary reviews preparation for annual Magh Mela

 PRAYAGRAJ:  Preparations for annual congregation (Magh Mela) are going on in full swing. State Chief Secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari on Friday reviewed the Magh Mela preparations in Prayagraj and issued strict directives to all the concerned departments that the work should be completed within the specified deadline.

 

He also suggested that departments must be ready with proposals for all necessary approvals and also asked them to make bi-annual action plan. Tiwari asked the Principal Secretary, Housing to send a circular in this regard to all the concerned departments. Moreover, directives were issued to ensure strict compliance of Covid protocols in every step of the way. No-holds-barred attention must be given to ensure immaculate cleanliness, sanitization, social distancing and security during the annual congregation along with uninterrupted supply of clean water must be ensured for the Kalpavasis.

 

 

 Tiwari stressed upon the need to spread awareness about strict adherence of Covid protocols including social distancing, mask and sanitization among religious institutions by officials and propagating the message to Kalpwasis as well. Meeting was attended by officials from Public Works Department (PWD), Energy, Irrigation Environment, Medical and Health, Power Corporation, Home and Tourism. He also instructed the officials to ensure quality to be nerve centre of all the works carried out ahead of Magh Mela. “The Magh Mela will be an eco-friendly affair. We will be deploying three special teams to keep an eye on vendors flouting the rule. We are making all stakeholders aware about the hazardous use of plastic and thermocol products during the Magh Mela,” he said.

 

District Magistrate Prayagraj, Bhanu Chandra Goswami informed that this time Magh Mela is proposed on 538.34 hectares, and would be divided in 4 sectors. The main baths events are falling on Makar Sankranti on January 14, Pausha Purnima on January 28, Mauni Amavasya on  February 11, Basant Panchami on February 16, Maghi Purnima on February 27 and Maha Shivaratri on March11, 2021.

 

Public Works Department (PWD) officials have been entrusted with the task of constructing pontoon bridges, installing signage, while Jal Nigam will look after the work of providing drinking water and drainage facility. Power Corporation will manage works related to laying of power lines, street lights and electrical connections for the Magh Mela camps. Similarly, the Health Department has been entrusted with the task of deploying doctors, paramedical staff in makeshift hospitals, and other healthcare infrastructure including ambulances etc. Irrigation department will manage river dredging, while Ganga Pollution Control Unit will make arrangements for jetty, sewer taping, STP etc.
