Covid warrior dies due to lack of ventilator in Ballari

Ballari, August 1: After the death of a 50-year-old Covid-19 warrior in Ballari, the District Health Department has recommended PM insurance benefits for the deceased family.

K Gaur worked as a junior health worker at the Kolur health sub-center in Kurugod city. He was deputed in the 'Door to Door' survey in Ballari city. He had also previously worked in check posts.

On Friday, he went on duty to conduct a 'door to door' survey, where he suddenly collapsed and fell on the ground. His on-duty colleagues immediately rushed him to VIMS Hospital (Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, Ballari), where there was no life-saving ventilator.

A team of health activists repeatedly contacted district health officer Dr. Janardan and nodal officer, district surgeon Dr. N. Basireddy, so that their colleague could get timely assistance, but all their efforts went in vain and K Gour died.

District health officer Dr. Janardan said, "The junior health worker of the Kolur sub center and COVID warrior died in VIMS hospital on Friday due to lack of life support ventilator."

The district administration has decided to send an insurance benefit proposal of Rs 50 lakh to the Central Government under the PM Insurance Scheme. Since the deceased was on duty as a COVID warrior from the first day of the outbreak of the virus and was also Covid negative, hence he is eligible to receive insurance.

Medical sources said, "The deceased was found negative in rapid antigen testing and RTPR. His last rites were performed at the Kurugod ground on Saturday as per family customs. If he had got the ventilator on time, he would have been among us today. Unfortunately, we lost a good human being and a committed worker."

Dr. Janardhan said, "After this accident we have requested Dr. B. Devanand, Director of VIMS to give priority to COVID warriors with the permission of ventilator. Hopefully such problem will not recur."

According to sources, this is the first case of COVID warrior death reported in the district and he is eligible to get insurance.
