CWG 2022 : India end campaign with 61 medals

Birmingham, Augh 9, (Fast Mail News):-- India finished fourth with 22 gold medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom. Overall, India had a significant outing at the Games as they ended up with 61 medals - 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze.


On the final day, the Indian team won six medals - four gold, one silver, and one bronze.


Three gold medals in Badminton


In the final match of the Women’s singles, India’s ace player PV Sindhu defeated Canada’s Michelle Li (21-15, 21-13) in straight sets to win the gold medal at the CWG. Sindhu, who had previously secured a bronze in 2014 Glasgow CWG and silver in 2018 Gold Coast CWG has finally won the yellow metal.


In the Men’s final match, India’s 20-year-old Lakshya Sen beat Malaysia’s Tze Yong NG in a thriller to win his first gold medal at the games. Sen after losing the first set made a sensational comeback and won the last two sets (19-21, 21-9, 21-16).


In the Men’s doubles final match, the duo of Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stole the limelight by winning the first gold medal in the event for India. The duo dominated the host country’s pair of Ben Lane and Sean Vendy as they beat them in straight sets (21-15, 21-13).


 Another gold in Table Tennis


In the Men’s singles final match, India’s ace paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal won the gold medal after 16 years at the CWG. The 40-year-old defeated England’s Liam Pitchford  4-1 (11-13, 11-7, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8) to add another prestigious medal to his kitty.


In the 2022 CWG, Kamal has won two gold medals - Men’s team event and mixed doubles - and one silver in Men’s doubles.


In the Men’s singles bronze medal match, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won his maiden singles medal at the CWG by defeating Englishman Paul Drinkhall in a seven-set thriller 4-3 (11-9 11-3 11-5 8-11 9-11 10-12 11-9).


It’s a Silver at the end!


The India men’s hockey team settled for a silver medal at the CWG. Australia dominated with a score of 7-0, winning their seventh straight gold at the Games.
