DAV move to close down three schools under TTPS

ANGUL:The closure of NTPC-owned Talcher Thermal Power Station has a negative fallout on the functioning of three DAV schools under it.

The HSC DAV school,Higher  Secondary DAV School and DAV Public School all are running collaboration with DAV and NTPC management. The Regional Director of DAV Keshava Satpathy said there was an MOU between NTPC management and DAV in 1996 where it is stipulated that these three DAV schools will function provided on the provision of infrastructure and running expenditure of the schools. He said the MOU is going to be lapsed in April next year as NTPC didn’t renew it. So DAV has served public notice to close down these three schools as the MOU with the NTPC will be null and void after next April,Satpathy said.

The public notice issued by DAV authorities has evoked sharp attacks from the DAV guardians association. The association secretary Sanjeeb Patnaik said about 2500 students belonging to 12 panchayats of Talcher and its adjoining areas are reading in these schools.

He said that NTPC has closed the TTPS but has decided to install a new power plant in place of the old one. So he argued there is no need to close these three schools after April 2023.

A memorandum addressed to the chief minister has been given through local MLA Brajka Kishore Pradhan by the association. The decision of the DAV has created a deep rooted resentment in the Talcher and other areas.
