Death toll touches 27 in Delhi's Mundka fire;two arrested,PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh each for kin of deceased

 (FMNews) –The death toll in  massive fire that broke out in a building in Mundka area on Friday evening touches to 27, while 40 people got burnt and injured. The injured were sent to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital after making a green corridor.Two persons have been arrested in this connection,according to police.

Reacting to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a tragic fire in Delhi. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.” Modi announced Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of those who lost their lives, and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

30 fire tenders reached the spot and doused the fire at 3.38 am. The police registered a case and arrested two accused. Both the accused are brothers. Varun Goel and Satish Goyal are the owners of the factory in which the building caught fire. Both have been arrested after registering a case under the sections of negligent death and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

According to the information, most of the people working in the building were trapped after the fire. On receiving the information, police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot and with the help of local people, relief and rescue work was started. The rescue personnel, with the help of ropes, rescued about a hundred people surrounded by flames. Meanwhile, a woman jumped from the third floor to save her life who was later declared brought dead in the hospital. At 10 o'clock in the night, fire brigade personnel launched a search operation after dousing the fire on the first and second floors. The firefighters pulled out 26 bodies one by one.

Director of Fire Department Atul Garg said that the search operation has not been conducted on the third floor. Police officials said that the exact cause of the fire will be known after the fire is brought under control. In this case, the police is also questioning the owner of the building, Manish Lakra.

Police officials said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire started from the first floor of the building where CCTV cameras and router manufacturing company Cofe Impex Pvt Ltd has its office. Police officials said that a fire broke out in a commercial building in Mundka at around 4.45 pm on Friday. The building houses the offices of several companies. Many people were present in these offices when the fire broke out.

Police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot and started relief work. Police personnel broke the windows of the building and pulled out around 80 people trapped there with the help of ropes, out of which 12 people got minor burns due to fire. The police sent the injured to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital by making a green corridor. After dousing the fire of the first and second floors at 10 o'clock in the night, the fire brigade personnel launched a search operation. During this, 25 bodies were recovered one by one from both the floors. Fire officials say that the search operation is yet to be conducted on the third floor. Firefighters have expressed the possibility of more bodies being found.

In this incident 12 people got scorched due to fire, whose names are Satish (38 years), Pradeep (36), Ashu (22), Sandhya (22), Dhanvati (21), Bimla (43), Harjeet (23), Ayesha. (24), Nitin (24), Mamta (52), Avinash (29) while one person has not been identified.

Ankit, who worked in the factory in Umarat, told that when the fire broke out, he was present on the second floor and motivational class was going on. After the fire, the smoke came upwards and when he started going down the stairs, he could not go, because there was so much smoke in the stairs that he was suffocating. After this, breaking the glass on the balcony, came down from the second floor with the help of a rope. Ankit told that this class was kept to increase the sale of the product.

The family kept wandering from this hospital to that hospital all night

The family members of a girl Pooja are wandering here and there in search of her. Pooja is 19 years old and she is a resident of Mubarakpur, used to work as packing in the factory. Her younger sister Moni told that Didi used to come every day till 7 pm, but when she did not come, she called her. The phone didn't ring. Then started searching for her, people came to know where Didi works, there is a fire. Been searching for Didi for many hours, she is not able to find anything.

In the same sequence, Tanya Chauhan, aged 24, also reached the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Delhi to look for her daughter, who was in a bad condition by crying. In the said hospital, Monica's family also came searching for her. Whose brother Ajit says that she used to come till 7 o'clock, but did not come today. After seeing the news, it was found that there was a fire. She had come to work only 1 month back.

Timeline of Delhi's Mundka fire

Everything was going normal in Mundka's building. Motivational class was going on at 4 pm on the second floor of the building.

- At 4.30 pm, smoke started coming out of the first floor of the building, screaming all around.

- Police-firefighters were informed about the fire at around 4.40-45 pm. The flames came out. After 10 minutes of getting the information, the police team also reached the spot.

To escape from the building at 4.50 pm, people started jumping from the first and second floors with the help of a rope. Police rescued many people with the help of local people.
