Dhenkanal: Elderly man trampled to death by elephant in Hindol
After getting information, forest officials rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body.Later,the officials sent the dead body for post mortem.
It is worth mentioning that in the past two months three persons have died in the elephant attack in Hindol subdivision.
The locals have alleged that elephant herds have been creating havoc by destroying the houses and crops in the region. Every year, the elephant herd destroys our crops. We are having a tough time due to elephants in our village,” said Harihar Nayak,a villager.
L.K.Ratha,the local ranger said that there 200 elephants are roaming in the area.Due to the presence of those elephants in the region we have alerted the people not to venture into the forest at least in early morning and evening.But,the locals tend to go to forest in both in morning and evening time.
“We have deployed various squads to chase the elephants from the village area and have kept vigil about their movements besides alerting people not to go out of houses in those hours.We have paid some ex-gratia to the family of the deceased.After getting full inquiry report, the government will provide compensation as per the rules of forest act”,the ranger said.
