Diesel wing of GOC workshop in Tiruchy gearing for diversification

Chennai, Nov 2:-- The Diesel Loco Periodic Overhauling (DSLPOH) wing of Golden Rock Workshop (GOC) in Tiruchy in Tamil Nadu is gearing up for diversification of work amidst a situation where the utilization of diesel locos in traffic services is coming down.
 
DSLPOH wing of GOC began functioning from 1969 to overhaul locomotives of diesel sheds of various zones of Indian Railways. 
 
DSLPOH used to handle one ALCO loco periodic over hauling (POH) in the initial stage, lateron the unit enhanced its capacity to takeup POH of 12 locomotives per month.
 
The use of diesel locomotives in traffic services in Indian Railways has come down considerably and keeping that in view, DSLPOH is preparing itself to diversify its work.
 
Recently, Railway Board has allotted 10 DEMU / DPCs for major overhauling for the year 2020-21 which is first ever for DSLPOH.
 
In Southern Railway, mainly Tiruchchirappalli division is operating DEMU trains. So far, TPJ division is sending DPCs to Loco Works / Perambur for major overhauling. 
 
 
 
 
During Sep 2020, one DPC (14008 / 700HP) of TPJ Division was sent to GOC Shop for POH.    
 
GOC has begun equipping itself with the required infrastructual facilities to handle the new work. All test stands were developed inhouse during September this year.
 
DSLPOH has carried the work of overhauling of all mechanical & electrical sub assemblies, bogies, corrosion repairs of under frame, interior paneling and completed the POH duly getting assistance from Carriage, Production and Electrical Wing shops also.   
 
Apart form regular POH, various other things were done at DSLPOH. One of them is that the all control rubber cables in driver's cabin have been replaced with E-beam cables which is having improved reliability.      
 
Like, breakers for lighting, fans have been replaced with contactors with push button in control desk which will help in quicker resetting by LP whenever a fault occurs in the circuit.
