Even Though AAP Rejoices IN MCD Poll Results, Party Has More Reasons To Worry Than BJP: Know The Points

NEW DELHI:The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has secured a majority in the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections (MCD Elections Result 2022), but the party is worried that the party's performance in the assembly constituencies of its senior leaders or ministers will also suffer.

The party has been able to win only one ward out of 4 in the Patparganj assembly of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The party has been defeated in areas with Muslim population. In Okhla, the assembly constituency of Delhi Waqf Board chairman and MLA Amanatullah Khan, AAP could win only one ward out of five. Congress and BJP have won in two wards each. Shaheen Bagh comes in this area, where there was a movement against CAA-NRC. In such a situation, the party needs to review its performance in these wards.

In fact, the party lost all the three wards of Minister Satyendar Jain's Shakurbasti assembly constituency. The Aam Aadmi Party lost all four seats in Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot's assembly in Najafgarh. In Environment Minister Gopal Rai's assembly Babarpur, the party could win only one ward out of 4. At the same time, the party has won 2 out of 3 wards in Ballimaran, the assembly of Food Supplies Minister Imran Hussain.

However, in Patel Nagar held by Social Welfare Minister Raj Kumar Anand, the Aam Aadmi Party won all the four wards. The point to be mentioned here is that Patel Nagar is the area of Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta and he has also been a councilor from there. Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal's party could win only one ward out of 3 in Shahdara. The party won 2 out of 3 wards in Mangolpuri, the deputy speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Rakhi Birlan.

The tenure of the councilors who win the MCD elections is for 5 years, but the Mayor is elected for only one year. There are total 250 wards in MCD. Only the councilors who win from these wards elect the mayor. The people of Delhi cannot directly elect the mayor. The public elects the councilors and the councilor elects the mayor. In the first year of MCD's tenure of 5 years, only a woman councilor can be made mayor. This is a kind of reservation. In the third year, a Scheduled Caste councilor will be made mayor.

MPs and MLAs cannot change party on their own or vote on any issue without the consent of the party in the House. But this rule does not apply to mayors, heads of municipal councils and municipalities, and councillors. And this thing can prove to be a danger for the Aam Aadmi Party.
