Government is guilty for Maha Kumbh stampede: Jairam Ramesh

NEW DELHIH:Congress on Sunday asked why the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh is not disclosing the actual number of people who died in the stampede at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj even after five days.

He alleged that the whole matter shows  the government is guilty for the stampede and it is trying to escape the blame.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Sunday, citing a media report, said that the state administration has not given any information about the number of dead even after four days of the incident.

Ramesh said, "The BJP government, which claims that crores of devotees visit Maha Kumbh every day, is not disclosing the actual number of dead even after five days. It is clear from the whole matter that this government is guilty and wants to escape the blame".

The Congress leader said, "The government's attempt to hide the figures clearly shows that they are only interested in shining their politics. Wherever there is a need to take credit, all BJP members come forward to promote Modi-Yogi, but now when it comes to taking responsibility, they are running away from their responsibility.''

According to the government, 30 pilgrims lost their lives and 60 were injured in the stampede at Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh on January 29. The police had blamed excessive crowd for the incident.

Shocking to know that in many viral videos on social media, it is being claimed that the stampede had occured at many places and not just one place and the number of deaths will be much more than the government figures.
