Govt Agrees To Manage Talcher Medical College On Two Conditions

 TALCHER(Fast Mail News) - After a long tussle,the state government has agreed in principle to take over the management of Talcher Medical college called Mahanadi Institute of Medical Science and research provided MCL agrees to meet its two conditions.

Dainanatha Panda, the special secretary to the government has written a letter to the chairman and managing director of Mahanadi Coalfields limited today in this regard. He said that MCL CMD on April 21 had requested the state government to take over the management and administration of the college.

Panda said in his letter that the state government has agreed in principle to take over the management and running over the medical college of Talcher Medical College provided MCL agrees to its two proposals.

He said that MCL should meet the entire additional capital expenditure required for the next few years and also agree to bear the entire operational cost for running college on the basis of actual. He also provided some estimates in this regard.

The special secretary asked CMD in his letter today to convey the acceptance of the proposal for further necessary action. There was a widespread demand by the people of the Talcher that the state government should take over the administration of the Talcher medical college. At a press meeting, the BJP state secretary Kalandi Samal demanded that state government should take over the management of the medical college which will be dependent by people of the six districts including Angul and its periphery. He also said that the Medical college action committee also has been formed at Talcher and staged a dharna for the fulfilment of the demand.



 Talcher Surakhya manch already observed  a Talcher bandh demanding government take over,Local MLA Braja Kishore Pradhan also thanked state government and MCL for the decision. Similarly BJP state secretary Kalandi Samal thanked union minister Dharmendra Pradhan and coal minister Prahalllad Joshi for taking bold decision arranging MCL funding for the medical college running.

In 2014, there was an agreement between the state government and MCL to set up a medical college of 500 seats capacity at Talcher.

In 2015, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ,Union Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan and  Piyush Goyal had laid the foundation stone for the 100-seater medical college and 500-bed super speciality hospital.

 According to the MOU,MCL constructed the building and completed it in 2018.Since then there was a tussle between state government and MCL over who will run the medical college. With both the MCL and state government urging each other to take over the hospital.
