Gujarat Election 2022: AAP candidate in Kutch resigns from party, announces support to BJP
Ahmedabad, Nov 28, (Fast Mail News):-- The Aam Aadmi Party, which is making huge claims in the Gujarat Assembly elections, has suffered a setback before the voting. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate from Abdasa assembly seat in Kutch district, Vasant Valjibhai Khetani, has resigned from the party and joined BJP. He has announced his support to the BJP candidate. Khetani resigned from the party on Sunday and appealed to the public to make BJP candidate Pradyuman Singh Jadeja win.
Voting for the election of the 182-member assembly of Gujarat will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. Polling will be held in Kutch in the first phase. There are 6 assembly constituencies in Kutch, including Abdasa, Bhuj and Rapar bordering Pakistan, besides Mandvi, Anjar and Gandhidham. The BJP had won 4 seats in 2017, while the Congress had won in Rapar and Abdasa, but the MLA from Abdasa left the party in 2020 and later won the election on a BJP ticket. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had fielded candidates for all the 6 seats in Kutch, in which the Abdasa candidate went to the BJP.
This time in Gujarat, a triangular contest is expected between the BJP, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP got 99 seats, while Congress got 77 seats. The BJP had won most of the urban areas, while the Congress fared better in the rural areas. AAP, which fielded its candidates for 29 seats in the 2017 elections, could not even open its account then. This time, AAP is gearing up to contest all the seats in the hope of ousting the BJP from power.
