Heavy rain predicted in South and North Bengal this week

 Kolkata, September 07 : A heavy rain is expected to lash  both North and South Bengal for a few days this week following the formation of yet another deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.


Informing this, local Met office said here this evening that as a result normal life not only in the entire South Bengal including Kolkata, but also in all six districts of North Bengal would be disrupted for at  least 72 hours later this week.


As the depression has already started moving towards the North and the North East India ,under its impact very heavy intermittent rain, accompanied by strong wind, was expected in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East and West Burdwan, Birbhum, East and West Midnapore and even in Bankura and Purulia districts from Wednesday onwards.



 Similarly heavy rain was also expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, Alipurduar and North Dinajpur districts, the Met office said and cautioned that as a result several rain fed river might spill further leading to water logging and even flood like situation in many areas.


Though at present there is no danger of any immediate flood in South Bengal, the fishermen were advised not to venture into deep sea later this week for a few days, the Met office said.


Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Board of Administrator of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and former Mayor Firhad Hakim has assured the people of all necessary steps to prevent major water logging in any area of the city including at the low lying areas. All highly powered pumps had been kept ready to face any emergency situation, he said on the basis of the announcement of the local Met office today.
