ICMR Study Report: 1 in 9 Indians may have cancer
One in 67 men at risk of lung cancer
According to the study (published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research (IJMR), one in every 67 men is at risk of lung cancer and one in 29 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime (0- 74 years). There is a risk of breast cancer).
Cancer cases expected to increase by 13% by 2025
It is estimated that in 2022, 14.6 lakh people in India were affected by cancer. Lung and breast cancer were the leading cancer sites in men and women, respectively. The study shows that lymphoid leukemia (boys- 29.2% and girls- 24.2%) was the most common childhood cancer (0-14 years). At the same time, cancer cases are estimated to increase by 12.8% in 2025 as compared to 2020.
"The estimated cancer incidence will change, depending on exposure, improvements in case findings, initiation of screening programs, and cancer detection and diagnosis techniques," the researchers said. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that there is an estimated increase in cancer cases and mortality due to it between 2020 and 2022 in the country.
Health Ministry gives financial support to states
