J&K: 10 bodies of workers recovered from debris of collapsed Ramban tunnel

SRINAGAR: In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, all the ten bodies have been recovered from the debris of the under-construction tunnel that collapsed on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district on Thursday night.

 10 labourers were trapped after a section of a tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway caved-in at Khooni Nallah in Ramban district collapsed on Thursday night resulting in death of 10 labourers.

 

 

  Soon after the incident,  large-scale rescue operations were triggered by teams of police, Army, SDRF and NDRF. However, inclement weather, fresh landslide, shooting of stones from the hillock, heavy rains and strong winds prompted the authorities to suspend the rescue operation yesterday afternoon. However, with the improvement in weather conditions, the rescue operation resumed today.

 After the day-long operations nine bodies have been recovered today as one body was recovered yesterday. Five of the deceased workers were from Bengal, one from Assam, two from Nepal, and two were local.

 SSP, Ramban Mohita Sharma has said the operation will be called off soon as all the ten bodies have been recovered and the National Highway NH44 is open for the vehicular traffic.
