Kolkata International Film Festival rescheduled from 8 Jan next year because of Covid-19
Announcing her decision after consulting with all stakeholders including those associated with the film fraternity in view of the present Covid -19 pandemic and the apprehension of its renewed surge in the state soon, the Chief minister announced here this afternoon that though the Kolkata International Film Festival were being held in city every year from 5 to 12 November generating huge response and enthusiasm among the city's thousands of film buffs to watch many award winning movies from across the glove apart from many memorable Indian films of yester-years, this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the possibility of a second surge her government had decided to postpone and defer the great extravaganza for a couple of months till January next year.
As per the new plan we have decided to reschedule the same festival from 8 to 15 January 2021 (instead of 5 to 12 November 2020) when the danger of Corona virus was expected to be controlled following the discovery of useful vaccines, the Chief minister said.
Since the introduction of the Kolkata International Film Festival in 1995 and is considered as the third oldest international film festival in India and one of the largest in the world, it is being organized by the West Bengal Film Centre under full patronage of the West Bengal Government, particularly that of Chief minister Mamata Banerjee since she assumed the office in 2011.
Apart from attracting thousands of cine lovers from across the country and abroad, the Kolkata International Film Festival is also being attended by world renowned film makers and artistes from various countries who come here with the bucket of their award winning movies every year..
