Last Rites of Lakhimpur Two Dalit Sisters Performed

 LAKHIMPUR:After the assurance of the administration, the two sisters in the Lakhimpur Kheri massacre were cremated on Thursday. The family of the deceased  had refused to perform the last rites, but after the assurance of financial help by the administration, the family agreed for the last rites.On Wednesday evening, the bodies of two minor sisters of a Dalit family were found hanging on a tree in Nighasan area. One of them is 17 years old and the other 15 years.

Earlier, the relatives had refused to perform the last rites of the dead. The demand of the family was that they should be given financial assistance of Rs 1 crore from the government, their son should get a government job according to the merit and all the accused should get severe punishment. Now the state government has also announced financial help to the families. After this, the relatives got ready for the last rites of the dead.

The accused  identified as  Junaid, Suhail, Hafizul Rehman, Karimuddin, Arif and Chhotu were arrested during the overnight search operation following the incident, Lakhimpur Kheri Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Suman said.



 The postmortem report of the girls has revealed that they were raped and then strangled to death. On Wednesday, the bodies of both the sisters were found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field in Nighasan police station area, about 60 km from the district headquarters.

Lakhimpur Kheri Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Suman said that the accused have been booked under sections 302, 376 of the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act. The SP said that the accused were friends of the deceased girls.

The accused had invited the girls to the farm on the pretext of where Sohail and Junaid raped them. After this, when the girls demanded to marry them, Sohail and Junaid along with Hafizul strangled the two sisters to death. The accused had called Karimuddin and Arif and with their help hanged both the sisters from the tree. According to the police, the accused Chhotu had introduced both the sisters to these boys, so he has also been arrested.
