Madras HC directs CB-CID to probe PG medical admission scam
Tamil Nadu: Chennai, October 29:-- Madras High court has directed CB-CID wing of Tamil Nadu Police to undertake investigation in a scam related to PG medical admissions in the state.
Many candidates who have not got seats even after the mop-up round counseling were conducted filed petitions in Madras High court. The High court passed the order while hearing these petitions.
A few private medical colleges are said to have filled about 74 seats in an unmeritorious manner, where candidates with low marks have got seats.
Justice Anand Venkatesh said self-financing medical colleges have taken advantage of the pandemic situation and have filled the vacant seats with students who do not have merit.
The CB-CID team who will investigate this issue will be under the leadership of an officer whose rank is not below that of an Assistant Commissioner, said the court.
The probe team will look into various aspects related to the admission scam like the nexus between Directorate of Medical Education and the private medical colleges with regards to filling up of the seats.
It will also look into the aspect of whether any money was received from the candidates who were admitted by self-financing colleges.
High court said the probe team should submit the report on 1 February.
