Manipur Landslide: 8 Bodies Recovered,20 Rescued Alive
A massive landslide occurred on Wednesday night near the Indian Army's 107 Territorial Army camp located in the area??. A massive relief and rescue operation was being carried out in the area since the early hours of Thursday.
Sources in 12th Battalion NDRF told Fast Mail News that so far 8 bodies have been recovered from the accident site, while 20 people have been rescued alive and admitted to the hospital.
Officials of the Manipur Disaster Relief Department said that the injured were being treated at the Nani Army Medical Unit. The seriously injured have been referred to Manipur Medical College, Imphal for better treatment.
Chief Minister Singh said on Twitter that he has called an emergency meeting to assess the landslide situation in Tupul. Search and rescue operation are already underway. Along with doctors, ambulances have also been sent to assist in the said rescue operation. The Indian Army has been deployed near Tupul railway station in Manipur's Nani district to protect the under construction railway line from Jiribam to Imphal.
Indian Army and Assam Rifles teams are carrying out relief and rescue operations. A massive rescue operation was continued in the area on Wednesday night as well.
Meanwhile,rescue work has been hampered due to fresh landslides and bad weather. Rescue operations will be carried out by army helicopters when the weather is clear. In relief and rescue operations, a team of 12th Battalion of NDRF, based in the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, reached the spot in the night itself, while two teams have left for the spot.
