Massive Uproar by Opposition in Parliament Over SIR, Proceedings Adjourned

(Fast Mail News):-- The opposition parties created a massive uproar in both Houses of Parliament today over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar, leading to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha proceedings just three minutes after they began, at 11:03 AM, until 2 PM.

The opposition also disrupted the Rajya Sabha, forcing an adjournment of its proceedings until 12 noon.

As soon as the Lok Sabha session started, opposition MPs began raising slogans and waving placards, demanding an immediate discussion on the SIR issue.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to the members to maintain the dignity of the House and highlighted the importance of Question Hour, but with the uproar continuing, the proceedings were adjourned.

The opposition’s protest was not limited to inside the House. Outside the Parliament premises, opposition MPs united for a demonstration.

The protest saw participation from Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, and other prominent leaders of the INDIA alliance.

The MPs held posters that read: "SIR - Attack on Democracy."

This protest took place before the Parliament session began, with the opposition labelling the voter list revision process in Bihar as biased and anti-democratic.

Leaders of the opposition INDIA alliance have submitted several notices in Parliament demanding a debate on SIR. Adjournment motions were moved in the Lok Sabha, while notices under Rule 267 were submitted in the Rajya Sabha.

Rule 267 of the Rajya Sabha allows any member, with the Chairman’s permission, to suspend the pre-scheduled agenda of the House to discuss "the most serious issues of national importance."

The opposition argues that tampering with the voter list in Bihar could shake the foundation of democracy, making an immediate discussion essential.
