Moldova has highest percentage of positive Covid-19 tests in Europe
According to the statement, Moldova has performed over 375,000 Covid-19 tests, and 99,633 of them came back positive. Nearly 27% of all tests were positive on the average, and the number of positive tests kept on growing. Forty-eight percent of tests were positive on November 18, when Moldova saw the all-time high of daily contagions, 1,607. The share of positive tests was the same on Tuesday, when 1,215 out of 2,523 patients tested positive.
The ministry has not increased the scale of testing despite criticism. Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu promised in July that the number of daily tests would grow to 5,000. She pledged to increase the number of daily tests to 7,000 when she addressed the parliament last week. However, the number of daily tests still ranges from 3,000 to 3,500 on workdays and half of that amount on weekends.
Moldova also ranks Europe's 8th in terms of coronavirus mortality. More than 600 deaths have been recorded per 1 million residents. The mortality rate in Moldova is approximately ten times higher than it is in Norway, Finland, and Estonia.
As of this date, Moldova has registered 99,633 coronavirus infection cases, including 82,335 recoveries and 2,188 deaths. The number of active cases currently stands at 15,110.
Moldova hit new daily and weekly highs of coronavirus infections last week: 8,662 contagions were seen over the week, including 1,607 on November 18. Last week, 130 patients died of coronavirus, which was more than previous weekly numbers.
