NIA, ED Raid on PFI premises in 10 states over terror funding, over 100 arrested

 NEW DELHI:A joint team of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and state police forces have arrested more than 100 Popular Front of India (PFI) leadersThe joint team conducted raids in 10 states.

According eps, NIA sealed the head office of PFI at Chandrayangutta in Hyderabad, Telangana in connection with a case already registered. The NIA, ED and Paramilitary along with the local police sealed the PFI office.

NIA and ED have also raided the premises of PFI in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. A raid has also been conducted on the locations of PFI Chairman Oma Salem in Manjeri and he has been taken into custody. Along with Oma Salem, Kerala state chief of PFI Mohd Basheer, national secretary VP Nazruddin and national executive member P Koya have been detained.



 This is said to be the biggest action taken by the investigating agencies against PFI. Maximum 22 people have been arrested from Kerala. While 20 people have been arrested from Maharashtra and Karnataka, 5 from Andhra Pradesh, 9 from Assam, 3 from Delhi, 8 from UP and 2 from Rajasthan.

On the raids, PFI General Secretary Abdul Sattar told , “Agencies are being used by the fascist government to suppress the voice of protest. The latest example of atrocities being perpetrated by the government was seen in the middle of the night, when central agencies NIA and ED raided the houses of popular leaders. People should strongly oppose the fascist regime for misuse of agencies.

The joint team is being searched at residential and official premises of individuals involved in funding terrorism, organizing training camps and radicalizing people to join proscribed organisations.

Dast Mail News quoted sources as saying that raids were conducted in many other states including Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh. Earlier this month, the NIA had raided 40 places in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and detained four people linked to the PFI in connection with a case.
