No doctor provided to Talcher municipal hospital for last two years

Talcher(FASTMAIL) -Talcher which is giving hundreds of crores of rupees in form of coal royalty to state exchequer is in want of a doctor in its municipality hospital since 2019.The people of Talcher were getting ailments due to massive coal mining activities depend upon a government hospital at Mandapal. The hospital always lacks doctors,para-medical staff and other infrastructure activities to cope up with rising patients borne out of large-scale industrialization.

So in 1975,a municipal dispensary was set up in Talcher municipal office to meet the growing medical needs of the coal city. But in later years it was shifted to the Hatatota area where a doctor, paramedical staff had been appointed to manage the dispensary. The municipality hospital over the years catered to the medical needs of the local people to a great extent, according to locals.

Dr PK Das was appointed as a doctor of the hospital in 1993 and he continued till 2019 when he died. Since then there has been no doctor appointed by the state government in this hospital. Even When hundreds of crores of rupees are available in the district mineral fund and doctors on this fund are being appointed elsewhere in the district. No one has paid attention to providing a doctor in such an important hospital dependent on the urban population of Talcher.

The hospital is currently managed by one laboratory technician, a temporary medical attendant and a sweeper .There have been several appeals made by people of Hatatota,Remuan,Sharma Chhak,Baghuabol,Bypass and Naba Mishra colony to appoint a doctor in this hospital. The people suffered like anything during the Covid pandemics in these two years but neither the municipal authorities nor the state government has paid any heed to the woes of the people.

Municipality Executive officer Rashmirekha Amanta said efforts are being made to provide a doctor in the hospital. Government has been intimated in this connection, she added.
