Pretorius will use the lessons learned from Dhoni as its main weapon against India
New Delhi, 7 June(Fast Mail) - South Africa all-rounder Dwayne Pretorius said he aims to imbibe the calm attitude and self-confidence of Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni ahead of the T20I against India starting on Thursday.
Dwayne Pretorius said in a press conference, "The biggest thing I learned from Dhoni is that he is very calm at the crease and he tries to take the pressure off himself and put it on the bowler. He does not get too excited . He is very optimistic. He believes that he can do anything. I am going to try and bring to my game his learning - any position, any game can be won."
He said, "As a bowler, you can still lose the match if you have to defend 18 runs in the last three balls and as a batsman you can win it. He made me realize that the batsman in the last overs. Not under a lot of pressure, but the bowler is under more pressure."
Pretorius made his Indian Premier League debut for Chennai Super Kings in 2022, playing only 6 matches. He shared a match-winning partnership with Dhoni while chasing a target of 157 against Mumbai Indians.
"The good thing about the CSK franchise is that they are very experienced. We all understand that cricket doesn't always go your way," Pretorius said.
The first match of the five-match T20 series between India and South Africa will be played on June 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
