Punjab Budget: 300 units of free electricity to every household from July 1

 Chandigarh, June 27 (FMNews) - The Punjab government has announced that 300 units of free electricity scheme will be implemented in the state from July 1. Budget has been arranged to implement this scheme on the ground. State Finance Minister Harpal Cheema presented the first budget of the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in the Punjab Assembly on Monday.

Harpal Cheema said that before coming to power, the Aam Aadmi Party had given guarantees to the people of Punjab instead of making any announcements. Many scheme have been implemented during the tenure of about hundred days,he said,adding that from July 1, the people of Punjab would get free electricity bills.



 The Finance Minister admitted in the budget that Punjab has slipped to the 11th position in terms of per capita income. The financial condition of the state is not good. Despite this, the Punjab government is not only making efforts to increase the income of the state, but many big schemes are also being implemented.

Rejecting speculations that the free power scheme being given to farmers in Punjab would be discontinued, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that free electricity would be provided to the farmers in Punjab. For this, a provision of Rs.6947 crore has been made in the budget. The Finance Minister said that in the coming days many welfare schemes will be implemented for the farmers.

Announcing the continuation of subsidy on electricity to the industries of Punjab, the Finance Minister has announced an allocation of Rs 2503 crore for power subsidy to the industries.
