RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat meets eminent Muslims, discussed on many issues including cow slaughter

NEW DELHI: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat held a meeting with five Muslim intellectuals and discussed important issues. Issues ranging from cow slaughter to the use of derogatory references were discussed in the meeting. Both sides also resolved to meet from time to time to continue dialogue on issues affecting both the communities.

The RSS chief's meeting with Muslim intellectuals was scheduled for half an hour, but the meeting lasted for 75 minutes. The meeting took place a month ago at Udyan Ashram, the Delhi office of the Sangh. Besides RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Sarkaryawah Krishna Gopal, former Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi, former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, former AMU Vice Chancellor and Lt Gen (Retd) Zameer Uddin Shah, RLD leader Shahid Siddiqui and businessman Saeed Sherwani attended the meeting. Were.

SY Qureshi and Shahid Siddiqui said, “The conversation took place in a very cordial atmosphere. After the meeting, RSS chief Bhagwat appointed four senior functionaries to keep in touch with the Muslim community on a regular basis. From our side, we are reaching out to Muslim intellectuals, journalists, writers to continue this dialogue with the RSS.”

SY Qureshi said, “He (Mohan Bhagwat) told us that people were unhappy with words like cow slaughter and kafir (used for non-Muslims). In response, we said that we are also concerned with this and if anyone is involved in cow slaughter then he should be punished under the law. We told them that in Arabic Kafir is used for unbelievers and this is not an issue that cannot be resolved. We told them that we also feel sad when an Indian Muslim is called a Pakistani or a jihadi."

RLD's national vice president Shahid Siddiqui told , “The first thing he had demanded was to meet the RSS at the time of Nupur Sharma's incident. We felt that due to this incident a toxic atmosphere has been created even within the Muslim community. However, by the time we got the date to meet Mohan Bhagwat, it had been a month since the Nupur Sharma incident and the controversy has subsided considerably. So we discussed matters of communal animosity between the two communities."

Though RSS pracharak Sunil Ambekar declined to comment on the meeting, a Sangh source said that whoever asks for such an appointment from RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat gets time.

SY Qureshi said, “The talks were very cordial. We discussed that 99 percent of Indian Muslims have not come from outside, but converted here. Mohan Bhagwat said that while Hindus worship idols, Indian Muslims also offer prayers in Kabra (grave). Communal harmony is necessary for the progress of the country and we all agree."
