Sirsa becomes capital of drug peddlers, 1700 arrested in 19 months

 Chandigarh, June 27: Under its ongoing campaign to check drug menace in the state,  Haryana Police arrested 1700 people under NDPS Act in the past 19 months in Sirsa district alone.

 

Giving this information here Saturday, a Haryana Police spokesperson said that in the past 19 months, they registered 1015 cases and arrested 1700 accused on the charges of drug peddling in Sirsa. They also confiscated a huge quantity of narcotics worth crores of rupees under a special drive to nail drug peddlers.

 

He said as many as 15 kg 25 gram 766 milligram heroin, 3641 kg 337 gram poppy husk, 53 kg 871 kg opium, 35 kg 206 gram ganja, 8,81,980 tablets  under the category of prohibited medicine and over 1.54 lakh prohibited capsules were seized from the possession of those arrested between November 24, 2018 and June 25, 2020. The special drive is in line with the government's commitment to make Haryana a drug-free state.

 

 

 He informed that crackdown on those involved in peddling drugs was being conducted on a daily basis in the entire state, especially in the districts sharing borders with neighboring states. The citizens were cooperating with the police in tightening the noose on those involved in peddling of drugs.

 

Director General of Police, Haryana,  Manoj Yadava lauded the efforts of the district Superintendent of Police Dr Arun Singh and his entire team for freeing the district from drug menace. He also urged the people to come forward fearlessly and share information against the sale, consumption and use of drugs with the police.

 

In addition to stringent action against the drug peddlers, police is also making people aware of the ill-effects of drug addiction.
