Stokes once again proved himself: Michael Vaughan

New Delhi, July 18 (HS): Ben Stokes was on Tuesday found not guilty on charges of affray, after saying during his trial he was acting in self-defence when he knocked out two men in a street fight.

At Bristol Crown Court, Stokes closed his eyes and then looked up at the conclusion of the case that cost him his role as vice captain of England's national cricket team.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also tweeted in support of the 27-year-old New Zealand-born star, saying that Stokes had been punished enough over the last 11 months.

"England’s best player ... England’s best fielder ... England’s most impactful bowler ...  England’s best batsman at the moment delivers once again ... @benstokes38 is a freak ... nothing he cannot do ... #TestCricket #ENGvWI", tweeted Vaughan.

The 29-year-old Stokes scored his tenth Test century of his career on the second day of the second Test against the West Indies. He scored 176 runs in 356 balls and played the longest innings of his career. It was also the second time Stokes had scored more than 150 runs in the longest format of the game.

Former England captain Vaughan also praised Dom Sibley, who scored his second Test century in 312 balls. It was England's slowest Test century since 2000. England declared their first innings by scoring 469 runs at the loss of 9 wickets. In response, the West Indies scored 32 runs for 1 wicket at the end of the day's play.

Craig Brathwaite and Alzari Joseph were unbeaten, scoring six and 14 respectively. Sam Curran dismissed John Campbell on a personal score of just 12 runs. The West Indies team still trails England by 437 runs on the first innings basis.
