Student jumped from second floor to avoid ragging, one senior arrested, 4 in custody
Guwahati, Nov 28, (Fast Mail News):-- A case of suicide attempt to avoid ragging has come to light in Assam's Dibrugarh University. According to the information received, a student living in the PNGB hostel of the university jumped from the second floor of the hostel after being fed up with ragging. The student has received several injuries. He has been taken to the hospital. A student has been arrested in this case, while 4 senior students have been detained.
This incident of ragging happened on Sunday. The injured student has been identified as Anand Sharma. The condition of the student is said to be critical. He is undergoing treatment in the ICU of the hospital. The relatives of the victim student have lodged a complaint with the police in this matter. Officials said that an investigation has been started into the incident.
According to sources, the victim's mother has made some very serious allegations in her complaint to the police. Sarita Sharma, who lodged a complaint with the Dibrugarh police station against the culprits, alleged that the incident was a result of their son being ragged and tortured mentally and physically, attempted to kill him, robbed of his money and snatched his mobile phone. She also accused those responsible for the incident of taking objectionable photographs by forcibly giving alcohol and ganja in the hands of his son, of conspiring to prepare the ground for his future defence.
The SP of Dibrugarh told that the main accused has been arrested after registering an FIR in this case. While 4 others who supported him have also been detained.
At the same time, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also issued a statement on this incident. Condemning the matter, he appealed the students not to indulge in ragging. Assam CM tweeted, 'It is learned that a student of Dibrugarh University has been hurt in an alleged case of ragging. A close watch was kept and further action was coordinated with the district administration. Medical care is being provided to the victim.
