Sudan's prime minister and ministers arrested in military coup

 Khartoum, 25 October (FASTMAIL) - In  a military coup in Sudan. Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has been placed under house arrest. Along with him, the cabinet ministers have also been arrested.

According to local media reports, armed forces attacked the prime minister's house in the early hours of Monday. Besides his arrest, the ministers of the cabinet, a leader of the sovereign council have also been arrested after placing the prime minister under house arrest. Apart from this, internet service has been stopped in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan,according to reports.

 Those arrested include Industry Minister Ibrahim al-Sheikh, Information Minister Hamza Baloul, Sovereign Council member Mohamed al-Fiqi Suleiman and Prime Minister's media adviser Faisal Mohamed Saleh. Apart from this, the governor of the state with the capital Khartum, Ayman Khalid has also been arrested.

The U.S. envoy in Sudan said, the US is alarmed. 

Media in Sudan has reported clashes outside the Army Headquarters. It is also reported that the Khartoum airport is shut.

It is noteworthy that differences between military and civilian partners in the transitional government have escalated since the September 21 announcement to thwart the coup attempt. Sudan has been ruled amid a transitional period of 39 months under a transitional government set up after the ouster of former President Omar al-Bashir in April 2019.
