‘Suryakumar’s century was one of the best I have seen in New Zealand’ – Ross Taylor

Wellington, Nov 23, (Fast Mail News):-- Suryakumar Yadav scored a superb century (111*) in the second T20I against New Zealand on November 20. Former New Zealand player Ross Taylor praised the 32-year-old for his knock, stating that it was one of the best he has seen in New Zealand shores.

“It was an unbelievable innings. The way he started, the way he hits gaps; I have seen a lot of good innings in New Zealand by McCullum, Guptill, Munro, but that would have to be up there with the best T20 hundreds I have seen on these shores in the history of the game,” Taylor told.

Speaking about Suryakumar’s skill set, Taylor said: “He takes calculated risks; the inside-out shot over cover against spinners is such a low-risk shot. I think he had a little bit of luck when he tried to ramp Ferguson, but other than that, I don’t think he really gave him a chance. New Zealand brought up the fielders and he backed himself to hit over them.”

“He doesn’t try and over-hit the ball, try and muscle it over there; there’s still a lot of skill and he played really good cricketing shots,” he said.

India will take on New Zealand in the third and final T20I today (November 22) at McLean Park, Napier. The Men in Blue lead the three-match series 1-0.

New Zealand opener Finn Allen said he admires Virat Kohli and stated that he would strive to be like Suryakumar Yadav.

“In terms of guys that I admire, obviously the way Virat has gone about (his game). He had a little bit of a tough time of late, and then to come out the way he has in the last few months and persevered through those challenges is very admirable, just seeing him overcome that and finish the World Cup as the top run scorer for his country," Allen told Hindustan Times.

“I really love watching Surya play. He is the No. 1 batter in the world at the moment and for good measure, I think. He is incredible. Some of the shots he plays are out of this world and he is someone I would strive to be like for sure," he added.

The 23-year-old praised the Indian bowling attack and said that India have got some quality players in their side.

“They are missing a few players and they still seem to come out with a lot of depth and some seriously quality players. It is a slightly different look to what we saw in the World Cup. But their bowling strength is top. They have got three guys in this series who can swing it both ways which is always pretty tough for any batter to combat,” said Allen.

“The way Arshdeep set the World Cup alight was pretty cool to watch not having to play against. So, we are certainly looking forward to that challenge. And then obviously their batting strength. They’ve got X-Factor after X-Factor in their order. They are a pretty exciting side."
