Tension between the councilors over vending zone distribution in Dhenkanal

DHENKANAL:Tension erupted  between the councilors of BJD and BJP in the council meeting over the distribution of vending zone in the municipality area. While BJD councilors opposed the invitation of applications for the vending zones in ward number 2,BJP  councilors supported it.

There was a heated exchange between the two groups in the council meeting which was shared by municipality chairman Jayanti Patra.

According to reports, vending zones have been constructed across the municipality area to be distributed to street vendors on lottery system. Accordingly, for 18 vending zones in ward number 2 municipality chairman invited applications from the affected vendors. The process of submission of applications are still on.But,BJD opposed the action of the chairman in inviting the applications in such a way .



 The vice chairman of the council Prakash Kumar Kuanr said,” We are not opposing invitations of applications for allotment of vending zones.We opposed  that the applications are being invited without the knowledge of the council and the executive officers and more so outsider involvement is there.We demand proper procedure should be followed in the distribution of vending zones”.

Rama Chandra  Patra,the husband of the municipality chairman said what is wrong in inviting applications for the distributions of vending zones in ward number 2.The allotment is being made by lottery system.Transparency is being maintained in the allotment which will go to the affected street vendors. The process will continue despite the opposition by the BJD. Meanwhile,the vice chairman said that an FIR has been made at the police station regarding the outsider involvement in the distribution process of vending zones in the municipality area.
