Three Mahima Gadi Buildings Demolished in Dhenkanal Joronda

ANGUL:After a long legal battle, finally three buildings belonging to the Kaupunidhari sect of Mahaima Gadi at Joranda have been demolished by Dhenkanal district authorities with the help of heavy police force.

There are two sects in Joranda based Mahima Gadi named Bakuladhari and Kaupunidhari.There has been a long drawn  legal battle between the two sects right from 1942 on the puja on these buildings located at Mohulamula at Third-bedha of Mahima Gadi.

 All the three buildings belonging to Kaupunidhari were razed to ground amid the protest from the sect members. Senior administrative officials and police officers along with five platoons of police were present on the spot when demolition was carried out. Prohibitory orders under section 144 have been promulgated in the entire Mahima Gadi area to prevent law and order .

 According to SDPO Suryamani Pradhan there are two sects namely Bakuladhari and Caupunidhari operating in Mahimagadi.All most all the buildings of the Mahimagadi except some buildings situated at Mohaulamula  are controlled by Bakuladhari.



  As the Kaupunidhari sect were performing puja at Mohulamula it was opposed by Bakuladhari who claimed that the area belongs to them. There were court cases right from lower courts to the Supreme Court on the ownership of the land. Finally the Bakuladhari sect won the legal battle paving the way for the demolition of the temple belonging to Kaupunidhari.

 Meanwhile,tension is prevailing in the entire Mahimagadi area at Joranda after the demolition  carried out by the district administration today.A  heavy police arrangements are deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.

 Dhenkanal collector Saroj Kumar Sethi said demolition was carried out under the court orders. He said strict vigil is being maintained in the area to maintain law and order.
