Three of a family killed as car hit by train

 Patna, 18 July : Three people, a couple and their daughter, were killed in an accident when their car dashed against a train while attempting to cross the tracks at an unauthorized railway crossing.

 

The accident took place on Saturday morning under Patna-Gaya rail section near Potahi station. A Swift car driven by Patna’s Sumit with his wife Neelima and a minor daughter was trying to cross the unauthorized railway crossing near Dharahra when its rear wheel got stuck in the railway tracks. Within no time Patna-Ranchi Janashatabdi train hit the car. The woman and her daughter died on the spot while Sumit, in his early thirties, succumbed on way to hospital. They were going to Dharahra.

 

 

 East Central Railay CPRO Rajesh Kumar said it was a clear case of trespass and carelessness on the part of the car driver. There was no disruption to rail traffic and the train left for its onward journey to Gaya.

 

He said, “A road vehicle collided with 03265 Patna-Ranchi Janashatabdi Special while attempting to illegally cross the railway tracks at unauthorized location on Patna-Gaya section. The accident happened between Potahi-Nadwan about 20 km south of Patna. There are three casualties in road vehicle but no passenger in the train was affected.”

 

A team of doctors from Danapur as well as the DRM and DNR along with senior officials of the division, rushed to the spot soon after the incident.
