Tusker died after being hit by train in Dhenkanal

 DHENKANAL:After a long gap Dhenkanal district which is housing more than 300 elephants has witnessed  a tusker death   due to train movement on the track.

Last night at about 1 am, a 20-year-old tusker was hit by a coal- laden train near village Chinta Pokhari under Meramandali  forest section belonging to Sadar range. The accident occurred  at about 3kilometers up Meramandali station. The elephant died instantly.

Dhenkanal DFO Sumit Kar said last night a herd of 49 elephants were crossing the railway track near Chinta Pokhari vllage..Acoal-laden truck which was coming from Talcher to Paradip hit the herd while they were crossing.As a result one tusker died on the spot. There was no injury to any other elephant in the herd which is camping at Jhadabandha-Nimidhi forest right now. After the accident happended senior forest officials informed instantly.P

 

 Principal conservator of Forest Manoj Nair Angul Circle RCCF Sudhanshu Khora,Dhenkanal DFO Sumit Kara and other officials reached the spot.They inspected the spot and seized the train.The post mortem of the carcass was done by a team of vertinery doctors this morning.Forest officials also have registered a case in this connection.

Kara saidas the elephants used to pass the raimway track at aroun about 30kilometer stretch periodical advisories are given to railway department.Likewise, last night the advisory was also  issued to railway department when reports of herd reached forest officials.

Denying any arrest has been made the DFO said investigation has been launched into the incident and after that action may be initiated against the culprit.
