Two held for killing elephant and wild boar in Dhenkanal
The two accused identified as Dilip Sethy from Kanimili village under Balimi police station and Raja Pradhan of Kantala village under same police station area have been arrested and forwarded to court on Thursday.
A 30-year-old elephant was allegedly electrocuted to death at Kadala village in Hindol forest Range in Dhenkanal district on November 30. Some electrical wires had been seized from the spot.
The accused reportedly confessed that they had laid electric wire in order to check elephant and other animals which were rampaging their paddy crops.
The carcass was spotted by locals and they had informed about the incident to the forest department.
Dhenkanal DFO Prakash Chandra Gogineni told," The accused, who are residents of a nearby village, were booked under the Wildlife Protection Act and further probe is underway”.
“The main accused could not be nabbed as he has been absconding.How ever, we are going on to nab the main accused soon .We are conducting raids at several places. The deceased elephant had sustained a burn injury on its body and his vital organs were also severely impacted”, said DFO.
