UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passes away

 DUBAI, 13th May (FMNews) - Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, died on Friday. He was 73 years old. He assumed the office of the President of the United Arab Emirates since November 3, 2004.

The Ministry of Presidential Affairs of the United Arab Emirates has extended condolences to the people of the United Arab Emirates, Islamic countries and around the world, announcing his death. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan succeeded his father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, as President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan became the first president after the creation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. After his death on 2 November 2004, his son was chosen as his successor.



 After becoming the President, he initiated structural reforms in the United Arab Emirates. Under his tenure, the UAE has seen a rapid pace of development, while its citizens have felt an improvement in the standard of living.

He took the initiative of people's engagement in the governance system of the United Arab Emirates. His initiative to nominate people to the Federal National Council was seen to be linked to the possibility of direct elections in the United Arab Emirates in the future. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, will now serve as the acting President. The new President will be elected within 30 days.
