Union Coal Minister to visit Talcher on Thursday

 Angul,FASTMAIL - The union coal minister Pralhad Joshi will be on a five-hour  visit to review coal production , transportation and stock status of Talcher Coalfield which accounts for more than 60 per cent coal production of Mahanadi Coalfield Limited, the flagship company of Coal India Limited.

The union coal minister is visiting Talcher while the country is facing coal shortage in power plants.

According to the schedule available from MCL, Joshi will arrive Bhubaneswar on Wednesday evening and will stay at Bhubaneswar. On the next morning on Thursday the union minister will fly to Paradip Port to see the coal evacuation process and from there he will come to Talcher coalfield. The minister will arrive here at about 11am on that day and will land at Hingula coal mines area. There he will inspect the six railway sidings from where coal is transported by various  power stations of the country.

The minister then will visit to NTPC Kaniha power plant 35kms away and will inspect the coal stock position there. Besides having a meeting with NTPC officials the minister will take launch there and will arrive at Talcher at about 3pm.


 According to reports the minister is likely to meet local MP and MLA besides trade union representatives before departing Talcher at 4pm.The minister’s visit to Talcher Coalfield is likely to boost the morale responsibility of the coal officials in augment the coal production and dispatch in the current year.MCL authorities claimed the company has not only made the target production till date but also crossed the targeted despatch to power stations.

From Talcher alone the company dispatches coal through as many as more than 60 rakes which is a record.

As per the schedule the union parliamentary and coal minister will go to Puri on Thursday evening to offer puja to Lord Jaganath. He is also scheduled to meet state chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday afternoon at state secretariat before departing to New Delhi.

He minister has no plan to visit Nalco smelter plant here on that day.
