Vigilance raids on Capt Amarinder Singh's close aide Bharat Inder Singh Chahal
The anti-corruption agency has started a formal probe against Chahal in the disproportionate assets case. An agency official has told the media that the agency is ascertaining the value of his property as Bharatinder Singh Chahal acquired the property through unfair means while being an advisor to the then chief minister. Bharatinder Singh was the media advisor in Captain Amarinder Singh's government. He had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with Captain Amarinder this July.
In 2007, Chahal was booked for corruption during the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP regime. At that time also he had to go through the investigation. However, in 2016, he was acquitted in the case as all 77 prosecution witnesses had turned hostile. Later it became an election issue. Badal and the captain were said to have reached a settlement.
Apart from Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, Vigilance is continuously taking action against the leaders in Punjab. These include the names of former cabinet ministers Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Brahm Mohindra. There is a buzz that in this episode, the Vigilance has raided the house of Bharatindra Singh Chahal, who is very close to the Captain.
