Violence in Odisha's Sambalpur, youth killed, curfew imposed

Bhubaneswar, Apr 15, (Fast Mail News):-- Sambalpur city remains restless despite elaborate security measures on Hanuman Jayanti. After the murder of a young man named Paltu Mirdha, the city was engulfed in flames of violence. The situation turned uncontrollable after arson and stone pelting. To control the situation, the administration had to impose curfew from 12 midnight on Friday. The Deputy District Magistrate of Sambalpur has confirmed the imposition of curfew.

 

The program was organized on Hanuman Jayanti on Friday amid tight security in the city. Around eight o'clock in the night, a group stopped some youths who were going on a bike on Ring Road near Town Police Station, Daleipada and attacked them with sharp weapons. These people were returning from the program of Hanuman Jayanti. Paltu Mirdha, who was injured in this attack, died. Two other youths are seriously injured.

The city is disturbed after stone pelting on the bike rally of Hanuman Jayanti Coordination Committee on Wednesday. It has been said in the release of the Deputy District Magistrate that the curfew will remain in force till further orders. Curfew will be relaxed from 8 am to 10 am and 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm to buy essential items.
