West Bengal Assembly passes bill to appoint Education Minister as Visitor of private varsities
Kolkata, 14 June ((FMNews) - Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar will not be the visitor of private universities of West Bengal. The amended bill to appoint Education Minister Bratya Basu in his place was passed by the Mamta government in the state assembly on Tuesday. With the introduction of the bill in the assembly, BJP MLAs raised slogans against it and staged a walkout. Because of this, voting was not required to get it passed.
Education Minister Bratya Basu introduced this bill in the house. As soon as Basu started speaking on this bill introduced by the name "The West Bengal Private University Law Amendment Bill 2022", BJP MLAs started shouting slogans and walked out of the assembly. After this the bill was passed by voice vote in the assembly.
It is worth mentioning that similarly on Monday, a bill was passed to amend the University Act to appoint the Chief Minister in place of Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as the Chancellor of all government universities. On this, the BJP had alleged that there will be direct political interference in the education system after the Chief Minister becomes the Chancellor. Now on Tuesday, a bill to appoint Education Minister in place of the Governor as the visitor of the private university has also been passed.
Now it will be sent to Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar for approval for implementation. If Dhankhar does not consent to it twice, it will be sent to the President for final consent.
