Wild tusker kills one, injures one in Dhenkanal

 DHENKANAL:A wild tusker has killed one person and severely injured his wife near village Kausinali under Mahabirod range of Dhenkanal Division at early morning today. The deceased has been identified as Rama Behera, 77 of the village and the injured has been identified as Tara Behera,65. After the attack,Rama and his wife Para was initially taken to Parjang hospital.At Parjang Rama died while his wife,later was shifted to  Dhenkanal district head quarter hospital where her condition is stated to be serious.

After the incident there was a tension among the villagers who blamed forest department officials for their apathy in driving out the elephants of their village area.



 Satya Narayan Sahoo,ranger of Mahabirod said in the early morning, at about 5.30 am today these husband and wife went to nearby forest to attend the call of the nature. They were confronted with a wild tusker who attacked both of them. Both were seriously injured and they were taken by forest staff to nearby Parjang hospital. Rama Nayak died  at Parjang hospital.His wife Para was in serious condition and was shifted to Dhenkanal district head quarter hospital this morning.. Her condition is stated to be serious.

Sahoo further said that a rupees of 40,000 were given to the affected family for funeral expenditure and further ex-gratia will be paid to the bereaved family later.Sahoo said that there are 22 elephants present in his range area and are under watch of forest squad..He said that while the elephants were returning to the forest they had confrontation with these two and the tusker attacked them.
