Trent Boult creates IPL powerplay record, matches Zaheer Khan in elite feat

 JAIPUR:Rajasthan Royals (RR) fast bowler Trent Boult achieved a brilliant feat in the powerplay in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday.

Thanks to the brilliant batting of Sanju Samson and excellent bowling of Trent Boult, Rajasthan Royals (RR) started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign with a win at home. Rajasthan won by 20 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Boult took the wicket of Quinton de Kock on the fifth ball of the first over in the second innings. With this wicket, he increased his number of wickets in the first over of powerplay from 2020 to 23. He took wickets at an average of 12.17 and gave runs at an economy of 5.09. No other bowler in this list has been able to cross the 10 wicket mark.

Boult took two wickets in his four-over spell, in which he gave away 35 runs. Apart from De Kock, he took the wicket of Devdutt Padikkal.

Openers Jos Buttler (11) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (24 runs from 12 balls with the help of three fours and a six) were out without making much impact, leaving the team's score at 49/2. After this, there was a partnership of 93 runs between Ryan and captain Sanju. Samson scored unbeaten 82 runs in 52 balls with the help of three fours and six sixes. Dhruv Jurel (20 not out with one four and six in 12 balls) performed well, taking Rajasthan to a total score of 193 for 4 wickets in 20 overs.

 

 

 While chasing the target of 194 runs, Lucknow team got into trouble at one point by losing 3 wickets for only 11 runs. From here Deepak Hooda (26 runs in 13 balls, two fours and two sixes) along with KL stabilized the innings a bit. After Hooda's dismissal at a total of 60, KL (58 runs from 44 balls, four fours and two sixes) along with Nicholas Pooran (64 runs from 41 balls, 64 runs with four fours and four sixes) added 85. Partnership, however, despite this, Lucknow team could only score 173 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs.
 
Trent Boult took 2 wickets for 35 runs in his four overs, while Sandeep Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Nandre Berger and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each.
 
Samson was given the 'Player of the Match' award for his half-century innings.
