Tusker carcass with pellet injury found in Angul jungle
ANGUL: Angul forest officials have recovered a carcass of 15 –year-old tusker from Baliapasi jungle of Pokunda section of Sadar range under Angul forest division this morning.
The carcass has two pellet wounds on its back indicates that he was fired upon by poachers. Though the tusker sustained pellet wound some days ago she died last night. Ruling out any bullet wound by poachers the officials claimed that the animal might have died due to either infection or some other reason.
Angul DFO, Nitish Kumar said on the morning today forest personnel of Sadar range got an information that a body of an elephant was lying near Baliapasi jungle of Manikajodi Panchayat. Immediately they rushed to the spot and informed the senior officials and also the doctors. He said doctors who examined the body detected two pellets on the backside of the body.
