Rahul Gandhi Urges Himachal,Telangana CMs To Implement 'Rohit Vemula Act'

The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, wrote letters to Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging them to implement the 'Rohit Vemula Act.' He also shared the letters on the social media platform X, stating that the Congress party is fully committed to ensuring equal access to education for every child and eliminating caste-based discrimination.

In his post on X, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi wrote, "Until every student receives respect, safety, and equal opportunities without discrimination, our education system cannot be just for all. After writing to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, I have now written to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging them to implement the 'Rohit Vemula Act.'"

He further emphasized that the Congress party is dedicated to ensuring equal access to education for every child and eradicating caste-based discrimination. In his letters to both chief ministers, Rahul Gandhi referenced two incidents from Babasaheb Ambedkar's childhood: first, when he was denied water during a bullock cart journey because he was considered "untouchable," and second, when he was forced to sit alone in school despite his merit.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had written to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, demanding the implementation of the 'Rohit Vemula Act.'

Recently, after meeting students from Dalit, Adivasi, and OBC communities, Rahul Gandhi posted on X: "I recently met students and teachers from Dalit, Adivasi, and OBC communities in Parliament. During our conversation, they shared how they face caste-based discrimination in colleges and universities. Babasaheb Ambedkar showed that education is the tool through which the marginalized can empower themselves and break caste barriers. However, it is deeply unfortunate that even decades later, millions of students face caste-based discrimination in our education system."

He added, "This very discrimination has claimed the lives of promising students like Rohit Vemula, Payal Tadvi, and Darshan Solanki. Such tragic incidents cannot be tolerated at any cost. The time has come to put a complete stop to this injustice. I have written to CM Siddaramaiah, urging him to implement the Rohit Vemula Act in Karnataka."
