BJP and RSS Want To Divide Us: CM Mamata

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have launched a "malicious propaganda" campaign in the state.

Mamata appealed to people to maintain peace and urged majority and minority communities to take care of each other. Referring to the violence in Murshidabad, Banerjee said that "these forces" are using the backdrop of an unfortunate incident triggered by provocation to engage in divisive politics.

In an open letter, she alleged, "In West Bengal, the BJP and its allies have suddenly become very aggressive. These allies include the RSS. I had not named the RSS earlier, but now I am compelled to mention it. All of them together have started a propaganda campaign in the state."

Mamata said, "These forces are exploiting the backdrop of an unfortunate incident caused by provocation. They are using this backdrop to play divisive politics. They are planning to play the 'divide and rule' game. This is terrifying."

Banerjee stated that "culprits" involved in the riots are being dealt with strictly. She added, "Majority and minority communities should work together and take care of each other."
