International Conference on Psychology for Sporting Success Kicks off at Manipal University Jaipur

 JAIPUR:The Department of Physical Education, Sports, and Yoga at Manipal University Jaipur (MUJ), in collaboration with the Sports Psychology Association of India (SPAI), inaugurated the 34th Annual Conference of SPAI today. Themed “Psychology for Sporting Success: Enhancing Performance and Wellness,” the two-day international conference is being conducted in a hybrid format from April 17–18, 2025. This marks the fifth international conference hosted by the department, underscoring MUJ’s ongoing commitment to advancing the fields of sports science and mental wellness.

The inaugural ceremony of the international conference was graced by prominent dignitaries Prof. Indu Bora, Vice Chancellor, LNIPE Gwalior, who joined as the Chief Guest; Dr. Anil Karwande, President of SPAI; and Dr. Anil Ramachandran, Conference Convenor and Secretary General of SPAI. Prof. N N Sharma, President, MUJ, Prof. Brajesh Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Management, Commerce and Arts (FoMCA) and Prof. Trishu Sharma, Associate Dean, School of Arts also joined the lamp lighting ceremony.

Prof. Brajesh Kumar welcomed the dignitaries whereas Prof. Tirhsu Sharma briefed the audience about the conference. President, MUJ Prof. N N Sharma delivered the presidential address. He emphasised on the core contribution of high-quality research and as an institute of repute how MUJ is contributing to the society through its research and innovation. 

In her address, Prof. Bora emphasized the increasing importance of mental training in modern athletic preparation, applauding MUJ’s efforts to integrate academic inquiry with practical applications in sports psychology.

Dr. Karwande and Dr. Ramachandran echoed the need for sustained academic collaboration and stressed the role of psychological resilience and wellness strategies in shaping successful sports careers.

 

 This two-day conference aims to explore psychological strategies that enhance both athletic performance and overall wellbeing, with a special focus on a holistic approach that integrates physical and mental health. The event features plenary sessions, panel discussions, and paper presentations from distinguished national and international scholars and practitioners.

Over 170 abstracts were submitted, with 40 full papers selected for publication in a Web of Science (WoS) indexed journal. The remaining accepted full papers will appear in the Indian Journal of Psychological Science, ensuring wide academic reach and impact. The current issue of the IJPS was also launched by the dignitaries on the stage.

The conference has drawn participation from leading Indian universities and institutions, including Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) Gwalior, Kannur University, University of Delhi, Sports Authority of India, Central University of Rajasthan, and Sports University of Haryana, among others. International engagement is also notable, with delegates from Malaysia, Nigeria, and Turkey joining online.

With vibrant participation and a focus on timely themes, the conference promises to be a significant milestone in promoting psychological well-being in sports.
